As part of its innovation projects, the company identified the need to digitize the existing infrastructure to facilitate the design, maintenance, and operation of advanced signaling systems. <\/p>\n<p><span data-markdown-start-index=\"796\">The <strong>main objective<\/strong> was to create a detailed digital model of the railway route that would include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-markdown-start-index=\"901\">Precise location of all track-side elements (beacons, signals, junction boxes, etc.).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-markdown-start-index=\"999\">Track geometry, including vertical and horizontal alignments.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-markdown-start-index=\"1071\">Extraction of key elements such as rails, center lines, and auxiliary equipment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-markdown-start-index=\"1152\">This information had to be collected with high accuracy and within a short timeframe, while minimizing disruption to rail operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-markdown-start-index=\"1315\">A <\/span><strong><span data-markdown-start-index=\"1344\">Mobile Lidar Scanning<\/span><\/strong><span data-markdown-start-index=\"1367\"> system mounted on a rail vehicle adapted to travel along the section. This technology made it possible to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-markdown-start-index=\"1472\">Capture millions of points per second using 3D laser scanning.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-markdown-start-index=\"1542\">Generate a high-resolution georeferenced point cloud.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-markdown-start-index=\"1609\">Process the data to automatically extract road elements, geometry, and alignments.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-markdown-start-index=\"1701\">The system was operated under actual track conditions, without the need for prolonged service interruptions or extensive manual intervention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-markdown-start-index=\"1855\">A spokesperson for the project highlighted the impact of the solution:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span data-markdown-start-index=\"1918\">\u201cThe digitization of the Oviedo\u2013Infiesto section represents a key step in our strategy toward a smarter rail infrastructure. Thanks to 3D mobile scanning technology, we have been able to create an accurate and comprehensive digital model that will enable the Infrastructure Manager to reduce time and improve the reliability of its systems, both during the design phases and for maintenance operations.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-markdown-start-index=\"2362\">Tangible <strong>results<\/strong> include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span data-markdown-start-index=\"2412\">Centimeter-level accuracy<\/span><\/strong><span data-markdown-start-index=\"2438\"> in locating railway assets.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-markdown-start-index=\"2486\">Reduced capture times<\/span><\/strong><span data-markdown-start-index=\"2520\"> compared to traditional methods.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-markdown-start-index=\"2557\">Complete digital model<\/span><\/strong><span data-markdown-start-index=\"2582\"> of the section, useful for engineering, maintenance, and simulation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-markdown-start-index=\"2649\">Improved signage planning<\/span><\/strong><span data-markdown-start-index=\"2696\">, thanks to reliable and up-to-date data.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-markdown-start-index=\"2735\">This project has enabled CAF Signalling to make progress in its digitalization strategy, laying the
