It is widely used in the food industry, pharmaceutical sector, drinking water, hospitals, environment, and any field where the presence of microbes impacts safety or quality.<\/p>\n

The main objectives are to evaluate the microbiological quality of a product or environment. <\/p>\n

  • Verify regulatory compliance (ISO, GMP, WHO, health regulations…). <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Detect contamination in production stages. <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Monitor the effectiveness of cleaning and disinfection processes. <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Investigate incidents (outbreaks, deviations, hygiene failures).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    In pharma, microbiological sampling is a critical activity to ensure that drugs – especially sterile drugs – are manufactured under controlled conditions, free of microorganisms that could compromise patient safety.<\/p>\n

    Main objectives in pharma<\/b><\/h5>\n

    To ensure the microbiological quality of the product during all phases of the process.<\/p>\n

    2. Confirm compliance with GMP, Annex 1 (EudraLex) and FDA aseptic processing guidance.<\/p>\n

    3. Monitor the environmental condition of clean rooms, booths, laminar flows and sterile areas.<\/p>\n

    4. Monitor personnel hygiene, the major source of contamination.<\/p>\n

    5. Prevent deviations, recalls and risks to the patient.<\/p>\n

    Type of microbiological sampling<\/b><\/h5>\n

    1. Environments<\/span><\/u><\/p>\n

    In classified clean rooms (ISO 5 to ISO 8 \/ Grades A-D):<\/p>\n

    – Active impaction air (SAS, MAS, PAB).<\/p>\n

    – Air by passive sedimentation (settle plates).<\/p>\n

    – Viable and in some cases non-viable particles.<\/p>\n

    2. Surfaces<\/span><\/u><\/p>\n

    – Swabs<\/p>\n

    – Contact plates (RODAC)<\/p>\n

    – Sampling after cleaning\/disinfection<\/p>\n

    3. Staff<\/span><\/u><\/p>\n

    Before, during or after critical operations:<\/p>\n

    – Fingerprints (finger plates)<\/p>\n

    – Sterile clothing: gloves, sleeves, apron<\/p>\n

    4. Pharmaceutical water<\/span><\/u><\/p>\n

    According to type:<\/p>\n

    – PW (Purified Water)<\/p>\n

    – WFI (Water for Injection)<\/p>\n

    – Condensates, process water<\/p>\n

    Mesophiles, endotoxins and sometimes specific pathogens are evaluated.<\/p>\n
