Unlike traditional methods such as strain gauges, which only measure at a single point, DIC technology analyzes the entire surface visible to the cameras .
This provides a comprehensive understanding of the behavior of the material, avoiding repetition of tests and offering much more accurate and complete results.

The complete solution by ZEISS (GOM) and Álava Ingenieros
The basis of the system is simple in concept and powerful in execution:
- Image capture: One or more high-resolution cameras (two for 3D measurements) are used to record consecutive images of the material as it is subjected to load, stress or vibration.
- Software analysis: The powerful software, now integrated into the ZEISS quality suite, compares the image of the material at rest with the images captured during the test. Using advanced algorithms, it calculates the displacements and deformations at each point on the surface.
- Visualization of results: The system generates full-color maps that intuitively display object contours, displacements, stresses and even vibration frequencies, allowing direct validation with simulation models (FEA).
This technological versatility allows the integration of cameras of different speeds, from quasi-static tests to ultra-high-speed applications, as well as microscopic systems and thermal cameras, adapting to any object regardless of its size or the speed of the phenomenon under study.

- ARAMIS: The reference solution for dynamic displacement and deformation analysis. Ideal for material characterization, vibration analysis and fatigue testing.
- ARGUS: Specialized in sheet metal forming analysis. The system captures the 3D coordinates of the part and compares them with the Forming Limit Curve (FLC) of the material, indicating whether the areas are overformed or within a safe margin. It is a decisive tool for process optimization and validation of simulations.
