The Smart Water Summit, a leading event for the water sector, took place in Madrid from September 19 to 21, 2023.

This event took place at a pivotal moment in the rollout of the PERTE for digitalization, which will transform the work of managers and government agencies and attract international investment.

During the conference, we were treated to opening remarks by Hugo Morán, Secretary of State for the Environment, and Teodoro Estrela, Director General of Water, both from the Ministry for Ecological Transformation and the Demographic Challenge. The latter highlighted the ambitious reform programs and public investment projects aimed at economic recovery and sustainable transformation, which include, among their lines of action, the PERTE for the digitization of the water cycle.

For our part, we had the opportunity to attend the presentation by Sergio Arróniz, Global Sales Manager for Infrastructure at Grupo Álava, who explained how the digitization of the urban water cycle is the path toward sustainable management. Thanks to the application of Generative Artificial Intelligence, water management processes enable a much more efficient, data-centric digitalization, making tasks such as leak prediction, simulation, and behavior analysis; network optimization; scenario simulation; and water quality or demand forecasting possible.
For his part, Miguel Mateo, CSO of MonoM, explained how digital twins allow us to monitor, analyze, and simulate behaviors in safe and controlled environments before make changes in the real world. He explained how, ein the water sector, digital twins can be used to model infrastructure, such as pipe networks, water treatment plants, and hydroelectric power plants. They can also be used to monitor events, water quality in rivers, lakes, and oceans, and predict potential problems before they occur.
At MonoM and Grupo Álava, we are ready to help Spanish and international companies make their water digitization process more efficient and effective.
