Regarding the hot topic of asset management, although the ISO 55000 standard has been published since early 2014, it will take some time for it to be accepted and implemented as the foundation for optimizing asset management. It is curious that this new standard, which encourages asset management to focus on value creation, is viewed by many as just more bureaucracy—a serious mistake. If we ask any manager whether their company has all its processes geared toward creating value in terms of asset management, they will all say yes without hesitation, since it is their direct responsibility. But how many companies would successfully pass a rigorous audit assessing whether their processes comply with the guidelines of the ISO 55000 standard? The creation of systems and structures that enable management to make decisions supported by accessible and accurate information is revolutionizing the way companies are managed.

What is new about the ISO 55000 standard is not its content per se, but the fact that optimizing asset management is not an option but a requirement for companies.
