Book on Ultrasound Detection and Analysis
This book describes the technique of ultrasonic detection and analysis and its application to industrial maintenance.
Book: Mechanical Vibrations
Currently, our production processes are under increasing pressure to compete more efficiently—by lowering costs, increasing production volume, and manufacturing higher-quality products—while ensuring the safety of our workers and respecting the environment. The question is obvious: How can we ensure all of this? […]
Book: Vibration Analysis Handbook
This book is intended for machine analysts who wish to delve deeper into the theory of vibration analysis without losing sight of machinery diagnostics.
Book: Audit It. Improve It!
In this book, Alan Friedman shares his experience with vibration monitoring programs, discusses ISO standards and others, and offers tips and tricks for anyone involved in maintenance or condition monitoring.
The Second Machine Age
“An excellent book. Brynjolfsson and McAfee combine their expertise in the rapid evolution of digital technologies and the economy to give us a vivid and accessible picture of the dynamic forces that are shaping our lives, our jobs, and our economies. For those who want to learn how to ‘Race with the Machines,’ their book is a great place to start.”
Michael Spence, winner of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Economics.
Article: Specular Reflection of Infrared Radiation: Common Misconceptions, by Rafael Royo
There is a great deal of confusion surrounding the concept of reflectivity. It is common to assume that surfaces with specular reflection have high reflectivity, and therefore that those which do not behave like mirrors have low reflectivity. The objective of this study is to demonstrate in a practical way that surfaces with low reflectivity but specular reflection are very common, and to compare them with the behavior of highly reflective specular surfaces. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that it is possible to measure temperatures on specular surfaces, even when “false hot spots” appear. Finally, a method is proposed for determining the emissivity of specular surfaces with low emissivity, down to values even lower than 0.1.

Stratos.
Taking advantage of the freedom afforded by setting the story in the future, Miguelanxo Prado (A Coruña, 1958) builds upon this graphic novel, weaving in elements of dystopian science fiction: a society based on consumerism and rampant racism, corruption, and the unchecked destruction of natural resources. Through a narrative that is at times harsh and cruel—yet not without certain comedic touches—he explores the passions and obsessions of all the beings that make up these tightly defined social strata, from the lowest level—that of the “proles”—to the top tier, composed of no more than eight people who, in the shadow of economic power, control all governments worldwide. An intelligent and effective narrative structure, supported by stunning, resource-rich artwork, continues to captivate, despite the time that has passed since its first serialized appearance in the pages of the magazine and later as the *Zona84* graphic novel in 1987—perhaps because it is one of those great science fiction stories that serve as a mirror of who we are.
