Description
Basler Stereo Camara devices include a complete pre-installed software package suitable for typical robotic applications. In addition, they offer low total system cost and industrial-grade quality for vision-guided robotics applications in areas such as factory automation, logistics, container picking or navigation.
These cameras are based on a “plug & play” computer vision solution that requires no experience or knowledge in machine vision since, thanks to on-board processing, these mechanisms can be integrated directly, without the need for external computers.
Stereo data processing:
- Camera image: the left camera provides the reference image for the image data set.
- Depth image: the distance between the camera and the environment is calculated by triangulation of the stereo image using the SGM methodology. It serves as input for point cloud generation and 3D reconstruction.
- Confidence image: the confidence image shows the confidence in each measured value for the subsequent processing steps.
- 3D reconstruction: calculated from the depth image without texture.

Plug and Play
- No previous experience or knowledge of machine vision is required.
- The user-friendly web interface of the Basler stereo camera allows for effortless installation and intuitive use.
- The Stereo Camera can also be connected and configured via Rest-API, ROS and GenICam.
Integrated processing:
Thanks to an integrated graphics card, depth images are generated directly in the camera and do not require external computing power. This is an ideal requirement for mobile systems. Point clouds can be easily generated from the depth image.
Visual Odometry:
Using state-of-the-art visual inertial odometry algorithms, Basler’s stereo camera records its current position and alignment with the highest accuracy. Low latency allows direct integration into the control loop when the camera is mounted on a robot.
Models:
The stereo camera versions have two different baselines (65 mm, 160 mm) and color or monochrome models.
