The Secretary of Innovation visits Grupo Álava, noting that “without technology, the Sustainable Development Goals would not be possible”
Yesterday, January 18, Grupo Álava had the honor of welcoming Ms. Teresa Riesgo, Secretary General for Innovation at the Spanish Government’s Ministry of Culture, Innovation, and Universities, to its headquarters in Madrid.
During her visit, Ms. Teresa Riesgo, who was accompanied by several of the company’s top executives, was able to see the latest technological advances in various areas of the industry, including high-speed imaging projects, as well as several models of hyperspectral cameras and a comprehensive monitoring system that uses both visible and thermographic imaging. The company’s experts explained how the technology works, discussed its applications, and highlighted several projects they have carried out using these and other techniques.
Among these technologies are those developed by MonoM, which has created an AIoT platform using artificial intelligence, big data, and the Internet of Things. With this platform, companies can manage their assets, processes, and industrial infrastructure.

The Secretary of Innovation expressed her interest in the predictive maintenance technologies developed within the company, noting that“one of Grupo Álava’s goals and missions is to democratize predictive maintenance.” She also emphasized that“one of the priorities of the General Secretariat for Innovation is to broaden the scope of innovation—that is, to encourage more companies to innovate. Another priority is knowledge transfer, as well as discussing innovation in key technologies, which are the ones that offer great opportunities for Spain.”
One of its subsidiaries, Álava Ingenieros, leads the Ready-Twin consortium. Its goal is to develop technological solutions to create digital twins and improve the operation of complex assets. Grupo Álava also participates in the Cybersec Project through MonoM and Álava Ingenieros. Its mission is to research technologies and tools to develop solutions that protect highly critical connected environments from cyberattacks.
Preditec, another subsidiary of Grupo Álava, has implemented a data platform for preventive maintenance in the automotive industry, providing users with an information platform and a digital twin for managing the lifecycle of industrial assets.
Another project in which the company is involved, through MonoM and MRA, is Multiple, which aims to develop a scalable and adaptable broadband multimodal photonic monitoring solution to optimize production across various sectors.
Among the executives who accompanied the Secretary of Innovation during the visit was José Fernández-Díez, executive vice president of Grupo Álava, who emphasized that they appreciate“the secretary’s visit—she has, so to speak, put her money where her mouth is— which is important because it allows her, from her position, to better understand our work. We were pleased to share the impact that public-private collaboration has on the private sector and to show her how to apply technology to industry to make it more competitive.”
Juan Rueda, vice president of business development at Grupo Álava, emphasized the importance of technology and innovation for the advancement of the industry, noting that“by integrating technology into the industry, companies across multiple sectors can take a major step forward to the next level, with systems that allow them not only to control and monitor the projects they undertake, but also to streamline and expedite projects that would otherwise be more costly and time-consuming.”
The executive also noted that“the involvement of various government sectors in helping companies and organizations adopt the technologies best suited to their activities is essential for the industry to continue growing and gaining influence both nationally and internationally. That said, a cultural shift is needed within companies.”
