The 2011 edition of ISO 17359 incorporates positive aspects—some drawn from RCM—that should be taken into account not only when implementing but also when executing and measuring the results of a condition monitoring program, as part of a proper allocation of maintenance tasks.
Many of the recommendations—albeit brief—provided in this standard are based on the experience of countless individuals and companies that have devoted years of work to perfecting this basic tool of predictive maintenance.
The success of maintenance departments in achieving asset reliability depends on the proper implementation of condition monitoring and its correct operation, as mentioned in the standard as PAS-55 or ISO 55000.
In this article, we review a model for the implementation, diagnosis, and certification of condition monitoring, examining some of the most important aspects to consider—which are not always met— and which should be audited periodically for each specific company, thereby moving us toward certification as an “excellent” company in the application of predictive maintenance and its tool—condition monitoring—in accordance with ISO 17359.
