Who are they?

Wallbox is a smart charging company whose mission is to free us from fossil fuels. To make the transition to a world powered primarily by renewable energy, transportation must go electric. By developing state-of-the-art electric vehicle charging solutions for homes, businesses, and cities, we’re demonstrating more efficient and sustainable ways to use and share energy.

What do they do?

Their electric vehicle charging solutions for homes, businesses, and cities take electric vehicle charging to the next level. They are at the forefront of technology, constantly innovating and developing new solutions. Their goal is to make the electric vehicle charging experience as simple as using a smartphone. Therefore, they focus on hardware and software solutions that improve the electric vehicle charging experience.

By opening up channels for data connections, smart charging enables communication between the car, the utility company, and charging operators. This puts our customers in control of their charging, allowing them to access, use, and share energy however they choose.

About Wallbox

Wallbox is a leading energy management company that manufactures smart charging solutions for electric vehicles. By combining cutting-edge technology with exceptional design, Wallbox creates a smart ecosystem that improves the way we manage, use, and store energy. Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Barcelona, its mission is to facilitate the adoption of electric vehicles today so that we can use energy more sustainably tomorrow.

Envisioning a world free of fossil fuels, Wallbox’s technology enables people to generate, use, and share renewable energy in ways they never thought possible. It currently sells to more than 60 countries and has 400 employees spread across offices in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, as well as two in-house manufacturing facilities. Wallbox offers four types of chargers, including Quasar, the first bidirectional home charger featuring advanced bidirectional charging technology, which was awarded the highest honor at CES, the world’s leading technology trade show. During the first half of 2020, it completed a €23 million Series A funding round, and in February 2021, Wallbox closed a €33 million funding round to expand into new markets, the expansion of its manufacturing and R&D facilities, and the hiring of new professionals.

Why do people contact Álava Ingenieros | Grupo Álava?

Wallbox is growing exponentially in both production and customer base. Proof of this is the contract signed last April with Iberdrola—a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to generate, consume, and reuse 100% of the energy produced at its plant and offices, located in Barcelona’s Zona Franca. Wallbox has entrusted Álava Ingenieros with the task of making this factory much more energy-efficient, as it also incorporates regenerative systems to test its products and thereby reduce the amount of energy drawn from the power grid.

This is made possible by a combination of bidirectional AC grid emulators that simulate stable global power grids to supply the charger, as well as generate grid disturbances such as flicker, variations, sags, overvoltages, undervoltages, frequency fluctuations, etc.; and bidirectional AC electronic loads that simulate the electrical behavior of an electric vehicle.

Thanks to their back-to-back topology with bidirectional 2/4-quadrant operation, these systems feed energy back into the grid, so that the facility’s actual energy consumption consists only of the losses from each of the systems that make up the facility.
