PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Response to the growing demand for water

Due to population and economic growth, water demand in Oman is increasing by 2-3% annually, especially in Muscat. To address this situation, the government launched several independent water projects (IWP). The Ghubrah Independent Water Project, awarded in 2012 after a tender, was the first large-scale IWP and was managed by Muscat City Desalination Company, with the aim of ensuring a sustainable and sufficient supply for the region.

How we made it happen

SWRO technology

The plant used SWRO technology and was among the largest operating desalination plants in Oman. This process, implemented globally, consisted of extracting water from the sea and subjecting it to high pressure through semi-permeable membranes, producing high-quality purified water.

Continuous monitoring system for all critical equipment (either by size or by plant type) for the continuous operation of the desalination plant, including equipment such as seawater pumps and high pressure pumps. The chosen system in addition to full machine diagnostic capabilities includes the integration of the processed vibration parameters into distributed control systems (DCS) and motor control systems (MCM) for monitoring and eventual triggering of the machines.

The scope of supply included sensor validation and integration, provision of ready-to-install monitoring modules, system engineering and configuration, FAT and SAT testing, installation and wiring validation, user training and alarm setting, ensuring a fully functional system. In addition, we offered remote diagnostic services of the monitored machines from the CMDT center.

RESULTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Validation and integration

Validation and integration of equipment successfully developed following all the customer's technical indications. In addition, FAT and installation validation tests are performed, as well as training in system operation and alarm settings. This implies the delivery of a 100% functional system to the customer.
