Description

With a duration of 30 hours, this Mobius Institute certified course (ISO/IEC 17024 accredited) covers:

  • Technical fundamentals: Amplitude, frequency, FFT spectrum and phase measurements.
  • Essential practices: Use of portable collectors, sensor configuration and application of vibration standards.
  • Basic diagnostics: Detection of unbalance, misalignment and incipient bearing failures.

Objectives

This course is aimed at technical operators of vibration monitoring systems based on portable vibration collectors. It may also be of interest to those responsible for reliability or predictive maintenance departments who wish to learn about the operation of vibration-based predictive maintenance systems. It is not necessary to have had previous contact with the world of predictive diagnostics of rotating machinery to follow this course.

Its syllabus is fully in line with the new ISO 18436-2 that regulates the knowledge and skills of predictive maintenance technicians and machine analysts.

Syllabus

  • Maintenance strategies: reactive, preventive, predictive and RCM.
  • Monitoring technologies: vibration, oils, wear particles, infrared, acoustic emission and electric motor testing.
  • Basic principles and concepts of vibrations. Waves and spectra. Forced frequencies. Indicators for vibration evaluation.
  • Data acquisition. Instrumentation, transducers, sensor attachment, selection of measurement points, operation of portable equipment on pre-programmed routes. Field measurement recommendations. Baseline generation and evaluation.
  • Failure modes and selection of appropriate monitoring technology. Evaluation of vibration severity in different types of machines.
  • Basic vibration analysis. Global value measurements, spectral analysis: harmonics and sidebands. The analysis process. Trends and alarm limits. Exception reports.
  • Introduction to fault diagnosis: Unbalance, misalignment, clearances, resonance and bearing associated defects.
  • Review of ISO standards.
  • Diagnostic practices of historical cases from machine vibration data.
