OBJECTIVE

High-reliability sensors for smarter wind energy

Siemens Gamesa is a Spanish multinational company of new technologies dedicated to wind energy. Siemens and Gamesa joined forces in April 2017 to become a leader in its sector, with more than 23,000 employees and over 90GW installed in more than 90 countries.

In 2019, the company Preditec was chosen as a supplier of serial instrumentation for Siemens Gamesa wind turbines. After commercial, technical and quality work, Preditec’s product features were developed and the company was approved as a supplier of these sensors.

HOW WE MADE IT HAPPEN

Preditec, approved supplier of sensors for Siemens Gamesa’s wind turbines

After this long approval process initiated with SE&A (South Europe & Africa), Preditec is now a worldwide supplier for all regions. The approval is carried out in different stages: economic, documentary technical, field technical, product quality and supplier quality. The evaluation is continuous and does not end with the approval, but proactivity is expected from the suppliers: proposal of improvements, new projects and new products.

This supply is considered by Siemens Gamesa as a critical and essential element for the operation and maintenance of its wind turbines, as it must follow strict quality procedures. High-precision equipment is required to meet the needs of the analysts in terms of the quality of the data reported to the monitoring center. Robust instrumentation is also required for demanding and variable wind, humidity and temperature conditions.

OUR CONTRIBUTION

What products and services we applied to the project

  • Vibrations

Vibration technology is essential in industrial predictive maintenance, as it detects imbalances, misalignments and failures in rotating components with high accuracy.

  • Portable equipment

Portable vibration analysis equipment allows fast and accurate diagnostics in the field, identifying unbalances, misalignments and incipient faults in rotating machinery.

  • Machinery Lubrication Analyst Category II (ISO 18436-4)

This course enables lubrication professionals to develop a strategic plan to meet maintenance objectives.

  • Vibration analysis and applications in Wind Turbines

PRE 7104. Course on analysis and diagnosis of vibrations in wind turbines.

  • Asset Reliability Practitioner (ARP-A) Reliability Advocate – Reliability Promoter

The "ARP Asset Reliability" course gathers all the necessary background knowledge on how to improve the reliability and performance of your assets within your organization.

  • Asset Reliability Practitioner (ARP-E) Reliability Engineer

The Asset Reliability [ARP-E] "RELIABILITY ENGINEER" course encompasses many of the best aspects of reliability and, once you have completed the course, you gain a very solid knowledge in all areas related to reliability.

  • Predictive maintenance

Predictive maintenance is an advanced strategy for detecting incipient failures in industrial equipment before they become serious failures. It is used to optimize production, reduce downtime and minimize maintenance costs, and is key in sectors such as energy, automotive, petrochemical and manufacturing.
At Preditec, we offer basic and advanced predictive maintenance services designed to maximize the efficiency and reliability of industrial assets. Through vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound and lubricant monitoring, we help our customers achieve greater competitiveness and reduced operating costs.

  • Advanced analysis

Machinery diagnostics is a key tool in predictive maintenance, as it allows to detect and prevent failures in critical equipment before they affect the industrial productivity and operability. It is used to analyze the condition of assets, optimizing their performance and extending their useful life. At Preditec, we offer advanced machinery diagnostics services, applying technologies such as vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound and real-time monitoring, which are essential to ensure equipment reliability, avoid catastrophic failures and improve industrial maintenance management.

RESULTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Improved life cycle

This instrumentation is able to monitor the condition of wind turbines continuously, allowing better life cycle management and its extension over time, improved reliability in terms of machine availability, optimization of operation and maintenance, better planning of interventions, reduction of inventory, reduction of catastrophic failures and improvement of wind farm safety.

Wind farm operators demand solutions that allow them to manage assets remotely, based on different criteria, including predictive maintenance of wind turbines. Therefore, it is increasingly common to find machines that include continuous monitoring; incorporating more and more sophisticated systems that include sensors, data acquisition hardware and monitoring software, as well as diagnostic services.
